April is Autism Awareness Month!

According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 54 children in the United States. Signs of autism usually appear by age 2 or 3, but some associated developmental delays can appear even earlier, and it can often be diagnosed as early as 18 months old.

By definition, autism refers to a broad range of conditions that are characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication. It is a spectrum disorder which means the ways those with autism learn, think, and problem-solve can range from highly skilled to severely challenged.

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, we are going to #LightUpWithKindess by sharing what kindness means to us. Look for our post on Facebook and join us in raising awareness by posting what kindness means to YOU!

You can find a variety of resources on the Autism Speaks website– including resources for parents, ways to get involved, and much more!
